Globalization and its relationship with democracy
Escaping the state of nature and going through a state where all civilians are equal, where justice is made, where the minority as well as the majority has the power and the authority to rule the country by choosing their governing legislation as known as the people representatives. That was the exact meaning of democracy.
However, to better understand it and to effectively achieve it, we ought to dig deeper into the concepts that are supporting it, such as; globalization .And we have to demonstrate the relationship between different elements that are, severely, attached to its fulfillment citing; cosmopolitanism, migration and kinds of citizens.
No doubt that globalization is, mainly, based on international influence shaped by organizations. In deed, those universal institutions has inquired the power to manipulate the thoughts of a simple foreign citizen while exposing many concepts such as democracy to him. Take as illustration Netflix: one of the huge companies that is, extremely, promoting globalization. In fact, such organization has the power to demonstrate visually to individuals how people on democratic systems are living while highlighting the concepts of good and bad, authority and freedom, justice and injustice. As a conclusion, globalization has always played a role in spreading democracy all over the globe and some of its means are technology.
Presumably, to enjoy a full democratic experience, a system must be clear of corruption. In deed, technological advances has now the extreme solution to deal with such cases. Take as an example the software used in banking systems and trading that allows the government to take control over the flow of money within the country and systematically uncover depraved systems. However, eliminating corruption do not only require detecting it but it needs, also, law enforcement.
As well-known, there are three kinds of citizens that directly promote democracy. First, the participatory citizen: the one who participate in the direction of political and social systems. The kind of citizen who participate in election and believes in sharing and equality principles. The second type of citizen is characterized by being responsible toward himself, toward his partners and toward his country: the kind of individual who positively impact his community. This kind of citizen is a perfect demonstration of the saying: “democracy is law obedience”. And while citing democracy, we couldn’t not mention justice and the kind of citizen who’s, always, seeking to fulfill it by analyzing situations and highlighting law infringement; bias and injustice: the justice oriented citizen. Such kinds of citizens, are models and the best manifestation of democracy.
Human migration is characterized by the movement of an individual or a group of people from a state to another or from different nations and such an act could effectively spread culture, thoughts and principles citing: democratic reasoning and democracy fundamentals. Let’s consider the example of individuals that have been raised in a democratic territory and decide to move to their natal country. Such kind of person will affect his community and raise its awareness while promoting the true meaning of democracy and no doubt that this kind of citizen will participate in the political life along with trying to make a change for a better life for himself and his partners.
People when they talk about democracy they tend to narrow it and set its boundaries within the border of a country which is false because democracy on a world-wide level exists and it is known as cosmopolitan democracy which is, fundamentally, based on equality of rights and obligation between cosmopolitans. However, fairness on a global level is hard to achieve especially that people, from different countries, whose been exposed to the same act are affected differently. As a demonstration, a terrorist attack in a country that is experiencing a civil war has not the same impact on people as a terrorist attack in a politically stable country. So, we can admit that, even if it is hard to reach, democracy on a large scale exist.
As a summary, while the three kinds of citizens and cosmopolitanism are the true demonstration of democracy in different scales, globalization and migration are the key factors of spreading it and the technology is the main component of supervising it.
The democratic system is well structured, however, in some cases its principles diverge making the reader question himself :”how long such a system could stand?”.
